On Sept 9, SC had urged doctors to resume work by Sept 10, failing which disciplinary action would be taken against them.
The principals said many junior doctors were not signing duty registers and working ‘unofficially’. This came as a major stumbling block in submitting the number, the principals said.
“We have sent a list with zero attendees. But we have added a note mentioning that many are working unofficially as and when their department heads need them,” said an official at College of Medicine and Sagore Dutta Medical College, near Kolkata.
“There are around 150 PGTs who are trainee reserves and bound to work by service rules. We sent this number to the health department. For junior doctors, we could not enter the number as none is signing the register,” said an official at Kolkata’s IPGMER.
“In many departments, our junior doctors are helping even in the ward. But we cannot include such numbers on the list… We should be able to send the number by Friday,” said an official of Medical College Hospital, Kolkata. Department heads were compiling the list till late night at NRS Medical College in Kolkata as well.
Altogether, around 7,500 junior doctors are officially on cease-work across the state.
