Flood alert issued to 14 villages as water from Sathanur dam in Tiruvannamalai

CHENNAI: A family of seven including five children is feared buried alive in Tiruvannamalai after mud and boulders came tumbling down from a hillock behind their house around 4.30pm on Sunday following heavy rain in the aftermath of Cyclone Fengal.
Police tried to call the numbers of Rajkumar and his wife Meena, who are believed to be trapped in their house with their two children and the three children of Meena’s brother. There was no response.
As soon as the landslide occurred, their neighbours on 11th street in VOC Nagar alerted police and fire servicemen to rescue the family. District collector D Baskara Pandian said the NDRF had been called in and they will continue the operation on Monday.
