Seven people were killed on Sunday when a Cessna 207 aircraft crashed in a densely wooded area of Jalisco, western Mexico, according to local officials. The plane had been en route from La Parota in the neighboring state of Michoacán.
Jalisco Civil Protection, through its social media channels, said that the crash location was situated in a hard-to-reach area, according to news agency AFP.
Authorities at the scene initially “reported a preliminary count of seven people dead,” with the victims yet to be identified, the agency reported.
“A fire was extinguished and risk mitigation was carried out to prevent possible additional damage,” it added.
Officials are awaiting forensic specialists to recover the bodies and confirm there are no additional casualties. Further details are awaited.
