All-rounder Shardul Thakur was rushed to a Lucknow hospital after his gritty 73-run partnership with Sarfaraz Khan for Mumbai in the Irani Cup against the Rest of India. Battling a fever of 102, Thakur managed to contribute a vital 36 runs before being dismissed by Saransh Jain at the stroke of stumps. Following his innings, he needed immediate medical attention.
Reports indicate that Thakur experienced mild fever on the opening day, but it worsened after spending time at the crease with Sarfaraz. “He was not feeling well for the entire day and was running on high fever, which was the main reason he came out to bat late. He was feeling weak and he slept in the dressing room after taking medicine. But he wanted to bat despite feeling low.” Medical tests for malaria and dengue were conducted, and Thakur spent the night under observation.
This match marks Thakur’s return from a foot injury that required surgery in London earlier this year. Meanwhile, Sarfaraz Khan shone with a remarkable double century, scoring 221 runs off 276 balls, making him the first player to achieve this feat for Mumbai in the Irani Cup, pushing the team to a strong position at 536 for 9 by the end of Day 2.
