NCP (SP) supremo Sharad Pawar, Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray, party leaders Aaditya Thackeray and Sanjay Raut, along with Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole, also participated in the march.
The Shiv Sena (UBT), NCP (SP), and Congress have called for “jode maro” (footwear protests) against the Mahayuti government, which includes Shiv Sena, BJP, and NCP.
The protest march is planned from Huatatma Chowk to the Gateway of India.
The Mumbai police have increased security in the area in response to the Maha Vikas Aghadi’s (MVA) call for a protest.
At the protest in Mumbai, Sharad Pawar described the collapse of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj statue as an example of corruption. Uddhav Thackeray, addressing the crowd, criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s apology regarding the incident, calling it “arrogant.”
A 35-foot-tall statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Sindhudurg district collapsed on August 26. The statue had been unveiled on December 4 of the previous year during Navy Day celebrations, which were held in Sindhudurg for the first time.
Uddhav attacked the BJP-led Mahayuti government over statue collape, saying, “Two days ago, people witnessed the fall of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj statue and the subsequent statements made about it. Despite Raj Bhavan being on the seashore, not even the Governor’s hat was disturbed. They claim the statue fell due to strong winds—how is that possible?”
