AGRA: Three youths, aged 18 to 20 years, took a college girl, 18, to a prominent cafe in the city of Taj Mahal and gangraped her inside a cabin within the establishment. The accused recorded the assault and later tried to extort money from the survivor. When she refused to pay up, they uploaded the video on social media.
The traumatised girl narrated her ordeal to her family members only after they came to know about the video circulating online. Her father lodged an FIR on Nov 14 at a police station in the city. In the FIR, the father stated his daughter was in shock and contemplated suicide several times.
The accused were arrested on Sunday. The gangrape survivor’s statement was recorded before a magistrate on Monday, said police.
On Nov 11, the girl was on her way to college when she met the three youths. She knew one of them and when they asked her to accompany them to a cafe, she agreed. The accused then took turns to rape her.
During investigation, it was found that the CCTV cameras at the cafe were non-functional. It has many cabins that are rented on hourly basis. Police said a notice was issued to the operator.
SHO Pradeep Kumar said, “On the basis of a complaint, an FIR was registered under BNS sections 70(1) (gang rape), 308(2) (extortion) and 351(2) (criminal intimidation). The accused were arrested and sent to jail. Investigation is on.”
The victim’s identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme court directives on cases related to sexual assault
