On Thursday, as Abhishek celebrated his 24th birthday, his mentor and India’s legendary allrounder Yuvraj wished him a happy birthday while sharing a video clip of a training session.
“Happy birthday sir Abhishek. Hope you take as many singles this year as many as you knock out of the park,” Yuvraj playfully wrote about his mentee, who is known to hit balls out of the park, on X (formerly Twitter).
Abhishek made his debut during the T20I series in Zimbabwe earlier this year, where a young Indian team was led by Gill, while the triumphant T20 World Cup squad led by Rohit Sharma had just returned home.
He hit a blistering hundred in the fourth match of the series, while scoring 124 runs in four innings.
A hard-hitting batsman who is equally adept against both fast bowlers and spinners, Abhishek initially began his career in the middle order. However, he successfully adapted to batting in the top three positions for Punjab in domestic cricket and for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League.
He is also a useful left-arm spinner.
“Keep putting in the hard work! Loads of love and wishes for a great year ahead!” Yuvraj’s social media post further read.
