INDORE: Ratlam SP Rahul Kumar Lodha, who fact-checked a complaint by right-wing groups about stone-pelting at a Ganesh procession, was transferred past midnight Tuesday after Hindu outfits demanded action against him.
Right-wing members claimed a stone was thrown at the procession in Mochipara last Saturday, but Lodha found no evidence on CCTV, leading to a case against unidentified individuals.Dissatisfied, right-wing activists staged a dharna outside the police station, and clashes with cops followed.
An FIR was filed against 150 people, including a Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha neta. Locals claimed a youth died due to baton injuries, sparking protests.
On Tuesday, Hindu groups submitted a memorandum demanding action against Lodha. Hours later, Lodha was transferred to Bhopal, with Amit Kumar replacing him as Ratlam SP. Hindu leaders insisted they had provided evidence, but police delayed action. At the investigation site, a crowd vandalised a vehicle, leading to a police lathicharge and tear gas use. Several people were reportedly injured.
