NEW DELHI: PM Modi on Wednesday highlighted the deep connection of noted Tamil poet and freedom fighter Subramania Bharati with the Gita, emphasising that his translation of the sacred text into Tamil made its wisdom accessible to many.
“Subramania Bharati ji translated Gita into Tamil, providing a simple and accessible interpretation of its profound message,” the PM said, adding that the occasion of Gita Jayanti, birth anniversary of Subramania Bharati ji and the publication of his works is nothing short of a remarkable confluence akin to the ‘Triveni’.
Releasing the complete works of Bharati, PM praised the extraordinary effort over six decades in compiling the 21-volume Kaala Varisaiyil Bharathiyar Padaippugal. He also emphasised the Indian philosophical concept of ‘Shabda Brahma’ – words are seen as more than mere expressions but vessels of infinite power and wisdom.
Modi said that Bharati worked in every direction the country needed at that time and added that Bharathiyar was not just the heritage of Tamil Nadu and the Tamil language, but also a thinker whose every breath was dedicated to the service of the country and who dreamed of India’s rise and pride.
PM Modi stressed that he had constantly presented the vision of India to the world through the thoughts of Bharati within India and abroad. Highlighting Kashi as the living and a spiritual bond between himself and Subramania Bharati, the PM noted that the time spent and the relationship of Subramania Bharati had become a part of Kashi’s heritage.
