NEW DELHI: A 14-year-old boy sustained severe injuries after being hit by a Jaguar car while jogging on a service road in Noida Extension.
The incident occurred around 6am on January 9 near Stellar Jeevan Society in the Bisrakh police station area.
Police said the driver of the luxury vehicle has been arrested, and the boy is in critical condition at a private hospital.
According to the victim’s father, Murari Singh, his son Neeraj was running on the service road when the Jaguar, being driven recklessly, struck him from behind. “My son suffered serious injuries to his head and chest. He is undergoing treatment at a private hospital,” Singh stated in his complaint.
Following the complaint, an FIR was registered at the Bisrakh police station under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 281, for rash driving, and 125b, for causing grievous hurt due to rash or negligent actions endangering human life.
The car involved, a Jaguar XE registered in Gautam Buddh Nagar, and its 22-year-old driver were taken into custody, police confirmed.
The incident has reignited concerns over the rising number of road accidents involving high-speed luxury vehicles in the National Capital Region.
Official data reveals that from January to September 2024, over 850 road accidents were reported in Gautam Buddh Nagar district, leaving around 330 dead and over 750 injured.
In a similar incident on May 16, a speeding BMW collided with an e-rickshaw in Noida’s Sector 24, killing two and injuring three others.
Ten days later, a 64-year-old man was fatally struck by a speeding Audi while crossing the road in Sector 53.
On August 12, a high-speed car crashed into a pole on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway near Amity University, resulting in the deaths of three passengers.
Recognizing the alarming frequency of such accidents, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath recently instructed authorities to implement extensive road safety awareness campaigns, with a focus on schools and colleges.
Meanwhile, the injured boy’s condition remains critical as police continue their investigation into the case.
