UP boy ends life after dad says no to bike for kanwar yatra

LUCKNOW: Satya Om, alias Chhotu, 17, hanged himself from the ceiling of his room after his father did not allow him to ride his motorcycle to take part in the Kanwar Yatra along with his friends.
On Sunday evening, a group of his friends in Padri village of Tadiyawan areas in Hardoi decided to leave for Rajghat, the starting point of Kanwar Yatra in the district, on motorcycles.
Satya’s father, Pravesh Kumar, however, did not agree to the idea, citing security concerns. This left Satya so agitated that he committed suicide later in the evening.
SHO, Tadiyawan, Ashok Kumar Singh, said that the body of the boy has been sent for a post-mortem examination. “Prima facie, no injuries were found on the body of the youth, but a report will clear the cause,” he said.
The SHO also added that they have taken statements from the locals and friends of the victim, who also said that the youth wanted to take his bike for a ride, but his father was not ready.
“The victim had recently returned from Delhi, where he was working in a factory,” said the SHO.
The SHO added that the victim’s father was the first one to spot the boy. “He had gone to wake up the boy, and when he did not open the door, it was broken open to find the boy hanging,” said the SHO.

Picking up pieces after kanwar yatra: Sanitation workers work extra for same pay
During the Kanwar yatra season, Haridwar faces significant waste management challenges due to a surge in pilgrims. Sanitation workers, like Ashish from the Haridwar Municipal Corporation, manage this waste overnight without additional pay. Despite increased efforts, the litter around Ganga’s ghats raises concerns. Over 6,000 tonnes of waste were generated this year, requiring extra manpower.
