The Hundred 2024: England’ unique 100 ball competition is all set to start. The format and the league has had its own critics but it has somehow started t find its own footing. The critics of the hundred have a theory of their own and believe that it is privatizing cricket. Just like the previous three editions of England’s premier tournament, the fourth edition faced some flak too, but is has generated enough buzz and excitement for the fans of the format.
The 2024 edition of The Hundred proves to be bigger and better with the presence of cricketing stars who can set any tournament on fire. Recently, the England and Wales Cricket Board’s (ECB) reached an agreement with Cricket West Indies to schedule the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) after the culmination of The Hundred.
The Hundred Banks On Star Power
This move will benefit the ECB as the top T20 stars from the Caribbean will light up the tournament which at times feels like a passion project for England. Not only just the men’s game but as far as the women’s competition goes, it will be played by the likes of Meg Lanning, Jess Jonassen, Annabel Sutherland and Beth Mooney.
Not just the Australian stars, but the likes of Smriti Mandhana, Richa Ghosh and Deepti Sharma have also been signed and will leave for England once they are done with their Asia Cup duties. The trio will feature in the contest along with Sri Lanka skipper Chamari Athapaththu. The other English and West Indies cricketers busy playing Test cricket will join their respective franchises once the three-match series is over.

The first match will be played between men’s defending champions Oval Invincibles and the Birmingham Phoenix. These two teams will clash in the opening encounter of the women’s division too. On July 24, the defending women’s champions Southern Brave will be up against the London Spirit. The match will be played at the Rose Bowl in Southampton.

The women’s Hundred matches will start at 7:30 PM IST and the men’s matches will have 11 PM IST start. On double-header days the second women’s matches will clash with the day games in the men’s competition. In this scenario, the first women’s match will have a 4 PM IST start the men’s competition will kick off at 7:30 PM IST. Sony Sports Network will broadcast the tournament on TV and Sony LIV have the streaming rights of the tournament.
