NEW DELHI: Mumbai batter Prithvi Shaw has been left out of the squad for the first three rounds of the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy, with selectors citing concerns over his fitness and discipline.
An anonymous official from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) criticized Shaw’s recent performances and attitude, adding to the growing scrutiny around the 25-year-old batter.
Speaking to PTI, the MCA official stated, “In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, we were playing with 10 fielders as we were forced to hide Prithvi Shaw. The ball would pass near him, and he would barely make an effort to get to it. His fitness, discipline, and attitude are poor. There cannot be different rules for different players.”

The official further remarked on the dissatisfaction among senior teammates regarding Shaw’s approach, stating, “Even the seniors in the team have started complaining about his attitude now. No one is Shaw’s enemy – he is his own enemy.”
Former India cricketer Jatin Paranjape expressed disappointment at the public comments from within the MCA. Taking to X, Paranjape said, “Such loose comments from sources within the MCA are truly unfortunate. Looks like they are not interested in helping Shaw out. This will definitely be his last season as a Mumbai player.”

Shaw, who had earlier been dropped from Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy team due to fitness issues, had an opportunity to redeem himself in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. However, his performance was underwhelming, with 197 runs in nine innings at an average of 21.88.
Despite Mumbai’s triumph in the domestic T20 tournament, Shaw’s contributions failed to meet expectations.
As the batter faces yet another setback in his career, questions linger about his future with Mumbai cricket and his ability to turn things around.
