NEW DELHI: AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday claimed that plans were being hatched to arrest chief minister Atishi and other senior AAP leaders in “fake cases” in the coming days, ahead of the Delhi assembly elections.
Claiming that the two flagship programs, Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana and Sanjeevani Yojana, launched by the AAP government, have rattled BJP, Kejriwal said, “They have planned to arrest Atishi ji in the next few days by framing a fake case. Before that, raids will be conducted on senior AAP leaders.”
“I will hold a press conference on this today at 12 o’clock,” Kejriwal said in a post on X.
The AAP government introduced the Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana this month, offering eligible women over 18 a monthly financial aid of Rs 1,000, which will later increase to Rs 2,100. However, the funds will be distributed only after the elections. Additionally, the Sanjeevani Yojana promises free healthcare to elderly citizens at both private and government hospitals.
The BJP, however, has accused the Delhi government of making empty poll promises and misleading the public. Bansuri Swaraj, a BJP MP from New Delhi, alleged that former chief minister Kejriwal was engaging in deception throughout the city.
Swaraj also accused the AAP leader of misleading citizens and claimed his team was collecting personal data from women and senior citizens under the pretext of these schemes. She warned Delhi residents against falling for such “tricks” and urged them not to share their personal information with anyone.
On the Rs 2,100 promised to women, Swaraj said, “It’s a scam because the cabinet has only approved Rs 1,000, which CM Atishi had announced in March before the Lok Sabha elections.”
She also claimed that two separate registration drives had been held for the same scheme, yet funds from the initial drive had not been transferred to the women’s accounts. “Why have women in Punjab, where AAP has been in power for two years and announced a similar program, not received the money?” she questioned.
BJP spokesperson Amit Malviya also cast doubts on the implentation of the schemes, saying “Arvind Kejriwal is the biggest fraud Delhi has ever witnessed. It has come to light that while AAP announced the Sanjeevani Yojana for senior citizens, no such scheme exists under the Delhi government. Concerned officials in Delhi have confirmed this. This is yet another hollow promise by Arvind Kejriwal, made just before elections, and a cover-up for his refusal to implement the Ayushman Bharat Yojana,”
“Arvind Kejriwal is taking the people of Delhi towards digital fraud. There is AAP govt in Delhi, and their own Department is issuing warning to the public that there is no such scheme. Arvind Kejriwal is cheating the people of Delhi. This is Atishi vs Arvind Kejriwal,” BJP President Virendraa Sachdeva said on Wednesday.
