Cricket has been always inclined towards the batters, as the fans always admire them whenever their favourite teams come in to bat. The batters often garner a massive following among any other members of the team. But the times have changed, and it is distinctly evident in recent memory. Gautam Gambhir has called for a change as he believes that it is no longer in the era of batters, as the bowlers are now taking centre-stage.

Gautam Gambhir Claims the Bowlers’ Era Has Begun, Wants to End ‘Obsessive’ Mindset
While addressing the media in the pre-match press conference on Monday, head coach Gautam Gambhir acknowledged that since the era has changed, he has called for the need to remove the batter’s obsessed mindset, which has been there for quite a while. GG also stressed the bowlers’ importance in matches and claimed that it was the era of the bowlers to shine in the longest format of the game.
“That era is past. This is the era of bowlers. Batters only set up matches. This batsman-obsessed attitude of ours needs to end. If a batter even scores 1,000 runs, it doesn’t guarantee victory. But if a bowler takes 20 wickets, then there is a 99 per cent guarantee that we will win the Test match.
“So if it is a Test match or any other format, bowlers win you matches and tournaments. In this era, we will talk more about bowlers compared to batters, and I hope this mindset changes,” Gautam Gambhir said before the Test match.

The previous era saw the batters spending a lot of time on the pitch during test matches, and the play would most likely end in a draw. But the Kanpur Test match was a testament to the fact that Test Cricket evolved when Team India went full guns blazing against Bangladesh with the bat from the first over. The bowling attack then annihilated the visitors’ batting side and capped off the match with a historic finish.
Team India will aim to continue their streak of dominance when they face New Zealand in a three-match Test series at home. The first match will take place at Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on October 16, 2024.
