US President-elect Donald Trump announced on Sunday that Tom Homan, the former acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), will oversee the country’s borders in his upcoming administration.
“The Former ICE Director, and stalwart on Border Control, Homan, will be joining the Trump Administration, in charge of our Nation’s Borders (“The Border Czar“), including, but not limited to, the Southern Border, the Northern Border, all Maritime, and Aviation Security, Trump said in a post on his Truth Social platform on X.
“I’ve known Tom for a long time, and there is nobody better at policing and controlling our Borders. Likewise, Tom Homan will be in charge of all Deportation of Illegal Aliens back to their Country of Origin. Congratulations to Tom. I have no doubt he will do a fantastic, and long awaited for, job,” he added.

Who is Tom Homan
Tom Homan, who served as ICE director for the first 16 months of Trump’s first term, has been a strong advocate for the president’s immigration policies.
During an interview with Fox News Channel, Homan said the military would not be involved in rounding up and arresting undocumented immigrants and that ICE would carry out Trump’s immigration plans in a “humane manner.”
“It’s going to be a well-targeted, planned operation conducted by the men of ICE. The men and women of ICE do this daily. They’re good at it,” he said.
“When we go out there, we’re going to know who we’re looking for. We most likely know where they’re going to be, and it’s going to be done in a humane manner,” he added.
According to CNN, Homan, a lifelong law enforcement professional intensified immigration control measures until his retirement in 2018.
Despite lacking Senate confirmation, he temporarily led the organisation from the start of Trump’s presidency due to his existing position as deputy director.
As a vocal defender of his agency’s actions, Homan regularly appeared at White House press conferences to support the arrest of undocumented immigrants, advocate for stricter enforcement, and criticise ‘sanctuary city’ policies.
Earlier, at a public gathering in September 2017, he announced that his agency would arrest undocumented individuals who stepped forward to care for these children, departing from the practices of previous administrations.
