NEW DELHI: A 211-feet tall effigy of Ravana has been installed in Delhi’s Dwarka Sector 10, touted as the tallest Ravana effigy in India. This eco-friendly structure, created by over 40 people, took nearly four months and a budget of around Rs 30 lakhs to complete.
Dwarka Shree Ram Leela Society organiser, Rajesh Gehlot said,”It took almost 4 months to make this Ravana effigy. The expenditure was around Rs 30 lakhs. You will get to see the tallest and most beautiful Ravan effigy in Dwarka.”
The effigy stands taller than the 92-foot-high replica of Ayodhya’s Ram Mandir and is made from iron, adorned with a velvet outfit, and crowned with fibreglass. It also has a foundation that extends 10 feet into the ground, said Gehlot .
Earlier, Gehlot also explained the symbolism behind the effigy, “As we can see, sin is increasing in society, so this effigy symbolizes the growing sins, and we will burn them all on Dussehra, that is, on October 12, 2024. We have invited prime minister Narendra Modi to the ceremony and are hopeful for a positive response. Invitations have also been extended to other BJP leaders.”
‘Dussehra’, or ‘Vijayadashami’, is celebrated to mark the victory of good over evil, signifying the day when Lord Rama is believed to have slain Ravana. This festival also concludes the Durga Puja and the nine-day Navratri celebrations.
