Railway officials confirmed that no passengers were injured during the incident. The derailed coaches were located just behind the engine, about 50 meters from the platform.
“The train’s scheduled arrival time is 5.35 am.The derailment occurred at 5.38 am when the train was about to enter the Jabalpur station. The loco pilot immediately stopped the train and saved other coaches from getting dragged,” Madhur Verma, senior Divisional Commercial Manager (DCM) of WCR’s Jabalpur Rail Division was quoted as saying by PTI.
According to Harshit Shrivastava, chief public relations officer of the West Central Railway, “The train was running at the dead-stop speed of 5 kmph when the incident occurred.”
Earlier on August 17, 22 bogies of the Sabarmati Express, which was travelling from Varanasi to Ahmedabad, were derailed in a block section between Kanpur and Bhimsen station in Uttar Pradesh.
