“Tyler Huntley’s ‘Snoop’ Nickname: The Rapper Connection Explained” | NFL News – Times of India

Tyler Huntley might not be the Miami Dolphins‘ starting quarterback, but he can be best known for his smooth moves on the field-possibly for his rather flashy nickname: Snoop. As in *that* Snoop-Dogg Snoop. Yes, the legendary rapper from Long Beach, California. So how did Huntley earn himself the same moniker as one of hip-hop’s original gunslingers? Well, it all started back in high school.

From Skinny Kid to Snoop: The Origin Story

A then-coach at Hallandale High School in Florida commented that he had a skinny frame and long hair. “He says I look just like the rap superstar,” Huntley explained last year in an Instagram Live session. “I was skinny with long hair. Long story short, got the name ‘Snoop.’
In pictures from the era, Huntley is a lanky 6’1″ and 190 pounds – nearly the same size he was when he matriculated at Utah as a freshman. Even though his frame has filled out since then; he has added 15 pounds during his years of play, the nickname has remained, dating back from his high school years up to the NFL.

Teammates and Fans Can’t Get Enough of ‘Snoop

Even when Huntley was playing for the Ravens, offensive lineman Tyler Linderbaum said, “Snoop’s a baller!” It is a tag that has followed Huntley, who is the unlikeliest laid-back guy who bounces from Baltimore to Cleveland and now to Miami, where Tua Tagovailoa and Skylar Thompson injuries could once again cement him in a spotlight.

A Fun and Fitting Nickname for a Laid-Back Guy

While his name derived from his high school look, it certainly doesn’t fit Huntley, who is known for being cool and collected, a quality you’d think a person with one of hip-hop’s smoothest nicknames would be. Even though his hair and body type have changed over the years, “Snoop” is still a big part of Huntley’s football journey.
So be it that he is tucking away to get through deep passes or communicating the signals in the huddle, there is no doubt Tyler “Snoop” Huntley is making a name for himself in more ways than one.
