‘Umpire compromised’ vs ‘underarm bowling’: BJP, Congress lock horns over Hindenburg report | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: The BJP on Monday hit back with a cricketing analogy of its own at the Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi‘s “umpire is compromised” remark after the new Hindenburg Research report claimed that Sebi chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch had stakes in “obscure offshore entities” allegedly involved in the “Adani money siphoning scandal”.
The saffron party’s national spokesperson CR Kesavan referring to an infamous Greg Chappel incident, said that the “hit and run” US short seller Hindenburg hand in glove with the Congress party-INDIA bloc are involved in “shady and deceitful underarm bowling” to discredit the stock market and India’s market regulator, Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI).
Speaking to PTI, the national spokesperson reiterated the claims of his colleagues in the party by saying that the Congress party is on a mission to “destabilise” India’s financial system.
“Rahul Gandhi made a cricketing analogy. Like Greg Chappell once dubiously did, it is the ‘hit-and-run’ Hindenburg and the crooked Congress-INDI Alliance which is indulging in shady and deceitful underarm bowling in order to discredit our stock market and regulator and destabilise our financial system,” he said.
The national spokesperson further alleged that the grand old party’s mission to undermine Prime Minister Narendra Modi will fail
“desperately” and heaped praised from the Prime Minister, who he said has been instrumental in making the country’s economy “not only stable, but also the fastest growing economy”.

Meanwhile, the opposition lead by the Leader of Opposition has been going tooth and nail since the short seller made explosive allegations against the head of SEBI – Madhabi Puri Buch. He also expressed serious concerns about the potential conflict of interest involving the head of SEBI.
“This is an explosive allegation because it alleges that the umpire herself is compromised…Why hasn’t SEBI chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch resigned yet?” Gandhi said in a video message.
The Rae Bariely MP also raised questioned that if the investors were to lose their money, then who will be held accountable. “PM Modi, the SEBI Chairperson, or Gautam Adani?” he asked, calling for prompt action.
‘Chit politics’
Meanwhile , as the Congress demanded a Joint Parliamentary Committee to investigate the recent Hindenburg research report, BJP’s Ravi Shankar Prasad accused the Congress of engaging in “chit politics”.
BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad also that the Congress aims to “crash the entire stock market”. “But what should be done about the chits that the Congress party and its leaders get?…They want to crash the entire stock market, stop the capital investment of small investors,” the BJP MP said.
The former union minister also alleged that the Congress in their “hatred” against Prime Minister Narendra Modi has developed “hatred against India itself”.
Earlier on Sunday, BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya invoked PM Modi’s “Balak Buddhhi” jibe to attack the Congress leader.
“The Leader of Opposition is now openly inciting and seeding doubt about the genuineness of the Indian stock markets. This blatant attempt to undermine confidence in our economy reveals the true intention of Rahul Gandhi, which is nothing but the destruction of India,” he wrote in a post on X.
