LUCKNOW: A 25-year-old man in the Baddu Sarai area of Barabanki reportedly died by suicide on Thursday night, allegedly due to harassment from the family of his wife following their love marriage.
The deceased, identified as Sudhir Kumar, was found hanging from a tree around 200 meters from his home in Khor village.
Before taking the extreme step, Sudhir posted his marriage certificate and wedding pictures on his Facebook account, captioning them with the words “Hamari Adhoori Kahani” (Our incomplete story).
A two-page suicide note was also recovered by the police, detailing the reasons behind his decision.
According to the note, Sudhir and a young woman from a neighboring village were in a relationship. They had met when the woman visited her brother, with whom Sudhir shared a room in Barabanki city.
Although the woman’s brother initially supported their marriage, her brother-in-law strongly opposed it.
Six months ago, the couple went ahead with a court marriage. However, Sudhir alleged in the note that the woman’s parents and brother-in-law subjected him to severe harassment, leading him to end his life.
Circle officer Saurabh Srivastava stated that the body has been sent for post-mortem examination.
An investigation will be initiated upon receiving a formal complaint.
