US presidential election: Who’s top pick for Kamala Harris’s VP? New poll shows key contenders – Times of India

A new poll released on Sunday reveals shifting dynamics in the race for Vice President Kamala Harris’s running mate. The ABC News/Ipsos poll, conducted from July 26-27, provides insights into the net favorability ratings of several prominent Democrats rumored to be potential vice-presidential candidates.
Among the contenders, Senator Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.) has emerged with a notable positive net favorability rating.
The poll shows Kelly with a positive net favorability rating of 10 points: 22 per cent of Americans view him favorably, while 12 per cent view him unfavorably. However, a significant portion of voters — 41 per cent — are unfamiliar with him, and 24 per cent have no opinion.
In second place, three Democrats — Pennsylvania governor Josh Shapiro, Kentucky governor Andy Beshear, and transportation secretary Pete Buttigieg — each have a positive net favorability rating of 4 points. Shapiro has 17 per cent favorable and 13 per cent unfavorable views, Beshear has 13 per cent favorable and 9 per cent unfavorable views, and Buttigieg has 29 per cent favorable and 25 per cent unfavorable views, according to the poll, reported the Hill.
Buttigieg and California Governor Gavin Newsom are the only Democrats known to a majority of respondents. For Buttigieg, 46 percent either don’t know him (27 per cent) or have no opinion (19 per cent). Newsom fares slightly worse, with 45 percent either unfamiliar (26 per cent) or indifferent (19 per cent), and has a negative 12-point favorability rating — 21 per cent favorable versus 33 per cent unfavorable.
The poll also indicates a slight rise in Harris’s favorability, which has increased by 8 points since the previous week. The current poll shows Harris with a narrow positive 1-point favorability rating, with 43 percent viewing her favorably and 42 per cent unfavorably. Last week, 35 per cent viewed her favorably.
Harris outperforms former President Trump’s negative 16-point favorability rating (36 percent favorable; 52 per cent unfavorable) and President Biden’s negative 13-point favorability (37 per cent favorable; 50 percent unfavorable).
As Harris secures her position as the party’s presumptive nominee, attention is turning to her choice of running mate. With no serious challengers and ample delegate support, Harris is expected to make her pick soon. The poll, conducted with 1,200 adults, has a margin of error of +/- 3.0 percentage points.
