A woman in Wisconsin, US has escaped from captivity after she was reportedly being held hostage by her boyfriend and forced to create explicit content on content creating platform OnlyFans. According to a report by the news agency Reuters, the woman who managed to alert police with secret messages to family and friends told officers it was the “most brave thing” she had ever done in my life. However, the report didn’t reveal the name of the victim.
As per the report, the 23-year-old woman was abused by her boyfriend, Austin Koeckeritz. Koeckeritz, who described himself online as “a business owner, an artist, and a student of psychology,” has pleaded guilty to sex trafficking charges and is serving a 20-year prison sentence.
Prosecutors said the woman was held captive for nearly two years and feared for her life. Her escape was prompted by a violent incident where her boyfriend poured hot grease down her back.
What the woman said about her abuse
In her first public comment: “The two years there felt like decades, and I was in pain and alone and ready to die. I don’t think I’ll ever be fully healed.”
She managed to escape after leaving a note for police in her front yard. In the note, she described being “basically imprisoned in this room to keep making money” for him.
What Onlyfans said about this case
On its website, OnlyFans claims that it prohibits prostitution and “modern slavery,” including human trafficking and forced labour. The platform claims its moderators review all content and are trained to identify and report suspected trafficking.
During a panel discussion in March, OnlyFans CEO Keily Blair also stated that the platform has led to “a focus on safety for people in the adult content space.”
According to Blair’s recent statements to a UK parliamentary committee, while OnlyFans requires creators to have written consent from everyone in their content, this proof of consent was not required before posting until November 2022. The company now claims to check for proof of consent before allowing content to go live, the report adds.
