NEW DELHI: The Vande Bharat train that will be making its maiden run between Jammu and Kashmir will have advanced heating systems to prevent freezing of water tanks and bio-toilet tanks. The silicon heating pads will also have overheat protection sensors to ensure safety and reliability.
The Northern Railway on Tuesday showcased the 8-coach Vande Bharat train which has been tweaked to meet the climatic requirements and ensure smooth operations even in sub-zero temperatures.
Officials said the trainset has heated plumbing pipelines, self-regulating heating cables to prevent water freezing and heaters in Indian toilets for providing warm air for vacuum systems and lavatories. The train also has an auto-draining mechanism. The plumbing lines are equipped with draining systems to prevent freezing during stabling of the train.
The train will make a round trip daily and cover a one-way journey in 3 hours and 10 minutes.
For driver’s comfort, the loco pilot’s front lookout glass has heating elements for defrosting to ensure clear visibility in harsh winter conditions. Anti-spall layers have been added to protect the driver from impacts during extreme weather or unforeseen events. The technology in this chair car train has been upgraded with air dryer system heating, which ensures the air brake system functions optimally in freezing conditions.
“The trainset has been meticulously tailored for the extreme climatic conditions of the Kashmir valley, reflecting Indian Railways’ commitment to innovation and regional integration,” said an official.
Officials said the train has warm air ducts extending to lavatories for passenger comfort and a 5 kVA transformer has been installed in underframes for dedicated heating systems in critical components.
