According to reports, the opponents are gearing up to challenge the results.
According to Elvis Amoroso, the head of the National Electoral Council, Maduro secured 51% of the vote, while opposition candidate Edmundo González amassed 44%.Amoroso said that these results, based on data from 80% of the voting stations, indicate an irreversible trend in favour of Maduro.
The electoral authority, which is controlled by Maduro’s supporters, has not yet released the official voting tallies from each of the 30,000 polling centres. This delay has hindered the opposition’s ability to independently verify the results and has raised concerns about the transparency of the electoral process.
The six-hour delay in announcing the results, well beyond the scheduled closing time of the polls, suggests that there may have been intense discussions within the government about how to proceed, especially considering that Maduro’s opponents had already come out earlier in the evening, nearly claiming victory.
Opposition representatives reported that their own tallies, collected from campaign representatives at 30% of the voting centres, showed González decisively defeating Maduro.
