Retired Army Lt Col Alexander Vindman who testified against Donald Trump at his first impeachment in 2019 and Elon Musk have locked horns with Elon Musk accusing Vindman of treason and Vindman calling Elon Musk comical and thin-skinned.
So, here’s what happened and how it spiralled over the last week
Alexander Vindmand said Russian president Vladimir Putin had been very effective in playing both Donald Trump and Elon Musk. Then he went on to accuse Elon Musk of leaking state secrets to Putin. Elon Musk reacted to this and said, “Vindman is on the payroll of Ukrainian oligarches and has committed treason against the United States, for which he will pay the appropriate penalty.”
Elon, let me help you with facts: Vindman’s counter
Vindman reacted to Elon Musk’s threat and accusations and made a long post asserting that he’s not intimidated. “Elon, here you go again making false and completely unfounded accusations without providing any specifics. That’s the kind of response one would expect from a conspiracy theorist. What oligarch? What treason?,” Vindman wrote.
Vindman said he runs a non-profit foundation and his loyalty to the US Constitution. “That’s why I reported presidential corruption when I witnessed an effort to steal an election. That report was in classified channels and when called by Congress to testify about presidential corruption I did so, as required by law. You, Elon, appear to believe you can act with impunity and are attempting to silence your critics. I’m not intimidated,” Vindman wrote.
“Comical. This guy is so thin-skinned. The adult approach is to have a serious conversation about issues like war and peace, US national security, the Russia-Ukraine war, etc.” Vindman added.
Former US attorney Joyce Vance hit out at Elon Musk calling his accusations against Vindman reckless and false. “Musk seems to feel as bound by the truth as Trump in his public pronouncements, which is to say, not at all,” added Vance.
Vindman “is not a traitor,” she continued. “And Musk is no prosecutor. He doesn’t have the authority to indict anyone, and apparently, he doesn’t know much about the law, because given the legal requirements for proving treason, Vindman hasn’t come anywhere close to committing the crime.”
Democratic Virginia Senator Tim Kaine also attacked Musk, writing on X: “Message to Elon Musk—The Vindman family embodies patriotism and public service. You know nothing about either.”
