Although the ruling BJP tried to create a poll narrative favouring it by focusing on “BJP Sarkar Teesri Baar” (BJP to form government for third time), but it appeared to be struggling for re-election in several constituencies till the last moment. For the first time, the political campaign saw personal and casteist attacks by political parties and candidates.
Prominent among those whose electoral fate would be decided on Tuesday are former Haryana CM and leader of opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda, outgoing CM Nayab Singh Saini, senior INLD leader Abhay Chautala, former finance minister Captain Abhimanyu, former deputy CM Dushyant Chautala and country’s richest woman-turned-politician Savitri Jindal. A similarly high turnout was witnessed in Uchana constituency where Brijender Singh of Congress and Dushyant Chautala of JJP are among other candidates.
