'We should fight anti-India forces': Kiren Rijiju targets Sonia Gandhi on alleged Soros link

NEW DELHI: Amid opposition protests outside Parliament calling for discussions on the Adani matter, Union minister of parliamentary affairs Kiren Rijiju on Monday doubled down on the Cong -Soros alleged nexus and said that certain national matters should not be viewed through a “political lens.”
The Union minister urged the Congress party to rise above politics to combat “anti-India forces.”
“I think that few issues before the country shouldn’t be seen with political lenses. George Soros and his links – that have come to light – we do not see it as an issue relating Congress party, Rahul Gandhi. We should take the issue seriously – if it is related to anti-India forces. We do not see this as party politics… We have told Congress and other parties that we will discuss over the Constitution on December 13 and 14 (in Lok Sabha) and on December 16 and 17 (in Rajya Sabha). I want to appeal to the leaders of the Congress party and its workers that if even their leaders are found to have links with anti-India forces, they also should raise their voices and we should be united and fight unitedly against anti-India forces,” Rijiju said.
Union minister Kiren Rijiju addressed the George Soros issue, saying that the allegations in the public domain are “serious.” He called on all citizens, including lawmakers, to place national interest first and urged unity in combating “anti-India forces.”
Commenting on the rift within INDIA bloc, Rijiju said that members of the alliance have questioned Rahul Gandhi’s leadership. “We have no intention of interfering in the internal matters of Congress or the INDI alliance. However, I’ve heard that certain parties within the alliance have raised concerns about Rahul Gandhi’s leadership,” he remarked.
The fresh war of words erupted after the BJP on Sunday accused former party president Sonia Gandhi of having links to billionaire Soros’s organisation that had advocated Kashmir as a “separate entity”.
The BJP accused Sonia Gandhi of collaborating with a 94-year-old currency speculator and hedge fund operator, alleging that they share a common goal of undermining India’s progress.
In a post on X, the party stated, “Sonia Gandhi, as co-president of the Forum of Democratic Leaders in Asia Pacific (FDL-AP) Foundation, is linked to an organization funded by the George Soros Foundation. Significantly, the FDL-AP Foundation has expressed views recognizing Kashmir as a distinct entity.”
The BJP also claimed that during Sonia Gandhi’s tenure as chairperson of the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, there was a collaboration with the George Soros Foundation, which they say highlights the impact of foreign funding on Indian institutions. Furthermore, they noted the involvement of Salil Shetty, vice president of the Soros-backed Open Society Foundations, in the Congress-led Bharat Jodo Yatra, where he was seen accompanying Rahul Gandhi.
