Trinamool Congress candidates are leading by significant margins in the bypolls for all the six assembly constituencies in West Bengal, with counting ongoing since 8 am on Saturday. These elections, held in Naihati, Haroa, Medinipur, Taldangra, Sitai (SC), and Madarihat (ST), are garnering considerable attention amidst the protests over the RG Kar Medical College incident, which has sparked widespread public outcry.
The bypolls were necessitated by the resignation of sitting MLAs who vacated their seats after winning the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
