NEW DELHI: BJD, headed by Naveen Patnaik, on Thursday sought greater consultation with political parties to address key issues for the ‘one nation, one election’ plan, on a day the Union Cabinet approved bills related to simultaneous polls.
The bills are likely to be introduced in Parliament’s ongoing winter session.
BJD Rajya Sabha member Sasmit Patra said, “Greater consultation has to be done, especially when it comes to ‘one nation, one election’. What will happen when there’s a lack of majority, hung Parliament or assembly, or the govt midway loses confidence? I think there are several key issues which are constitutionally demanding and have not been addressed so far in ‘one nation, one election’. I believe wider consultation and dialogue needs to be done with political parties.”
