NEW DELHI: Haryana’s promising young fast bowler Anshul Kamboj has recently made a notable impact in Indian domestic cricket with an exceptional performance in the Ranji Trophy.
At the Chaudhry Bansi Lal Cricket Stadium in Lahli, Kamboj achieved the remarkable feat of taking all 10 wickets in an innings against Kerala, finishing with incredible figures of 10/49.
This rare achievement has placed him among an elite group, making him only the third bowler in Ranji Trophy history to accomplish this feat.
This milestone comes after a gap of 39 years, aligning Kamboj with two legendary bowlers, Premangsu Chatterjee and Pradeep Sunderam, who had previously achieved the same in the tournament. His outstanding performance has captured widespread attention, showcasing his immense talent.
On Day 3 of the fifth-round match, Kamboj took control of the game, dismantling Kerala’s top order by removing all four half-centurions before tea. This brilliant spell also saw him surpass 50 wickets in his 19th First-Class match.
Having already claimed eight wickets by the close of Day 2, Kamboj continued his fiery performance the next morning by dismissing Basil Thampi for his ninth wicket. He completed his perfect ten by sending Shoun Roger back to the pavilion, restricting Kerala to 291 in their first innings. His final figures read an impressive 30.1-9-49-10.
With this achievement, Kamboj joins an exclusive club of bowlers who have taken all 10 wickets in a Ranji Trophy innings, alongside Chatterjee (who did so for Bengal in the 1956-57 season) and Sunderam (who achieved the feat for Rajasthan against Vidarbha in 1985-86).
Kamboj is now the sixth Indian bowler to claim a First-Class 10-wicket haul, joining the ranks of cricketing legends such as Anil Kumble, Subhash Gupte, and Debasis Mohanty.
Previously, Kamboj had represented India A in the ACC Emerging Asia Cup in Oman and had impressed in the Duleep Trophy, where he became the third pace bowler to take eight wickets in the tournament, following Mohanty (10/46) and Ashoke Dinda (8/123).
