Why Apple may have launched iPhone 16 on a Monday, and not the ‘traditional Tuesday’ – Times of India

Apple hosted its iPhone launch event on Monday this year, making a departure from the long-established Tuesday launches. This makes a historical shift for Apple and Apple fans. Want to know the reason behind this shift? Read on
It is noteworthy to state here that Apple’s WWDC (Worldwide Developers Conference) event in June was also held on a Monday i.e. June 10, 2024.

Tax dispute in Europe

Apple, as we all know has been facing challenges in the European market. The iPhone maker faces a potentially massive fine of $14 billion (roughly translated to Rs 1.17 lakh crore) over a tax dispute.
The fine arises from claims that Apple and Ireland worked together to evade taxes on over $100 billion earned in Europe from 2004 to 2014. The dispute, ongoing since 2016, has undergone several legal challenges and appeals.
Now, the case ruling is likely to come on September 10, 2024 which is when the iPhone 16 series was initially planned. But given the uncertainty of the ruling, hosting a high-profile event on the same day could have been too risky for Apple.

US elections could also be the reason

But there are other reports which suggest that the debate between US Presidential candidates – Donald Trump and Kamala Harris on September 10 may have also impacted Apple’s decision. Do note that Apple itself has not yet explained the historical shift though.
