'Why hasn't BJP expelled Kangana?': Congress demands action on Ranaut's farm law remarks
The Congress, seizing the opportunity, shared a video on social media where Ranaut can be heard advocating for the laws’ return.

The Congress party intensified its attack on the BJP on Wednesday, demanding the expulsion of actor-politician Kangana Ranaut after she called for the return of the three controversial farm laws that were repealed in 2021. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge condemned Ranaut’s remarks, warning that states headed for elections, including Haryana, would respond forcefully to any efforts to bring back the laws.
Ranaut, who is also a BJP member of parliament, had made a statement supporting the reimplementation of the farm laws. However, she later retracted her comments, clarifying that her views were personal and did not reflect the party’s position. “I must remember that I am not only an artiste but also a BJP member now, and my statements should align with the party’s policies,” she said.
The Congress, seizing the opportunity, shared a video on social media where Ranaut can be heard advocating for the laws’ return. “The laws in farmers’ interest should be brought back. Farmers should demand it to ensure their prosperity,” she said in Hindi.
In response, Kharge accused the BJP of continuing to hold an “anti-farmer” stance despite the deaths of over 750 farmers during the protests. “Even after the martyrdom of 750 farmers, the BJP and Modi government have not learned their lesson. They are considering re-implementing the black anti-farmer laws,” he said. Kharge further alleged that the Modi government had failed to honor promises made to farmers, including guaranteeing minimum support prices (MSP) and compensating families of the deceased farmers.
Shaktisinh Gohil, a Congress spokesperson, also criticized Prime Minister Modi for not condemning Ranaut’s remarks. “Why hasn’t PM Modi condemned her? If the BJP doesn’t agree with her statement, why haven’t they expelled her?” Gohil questioned at a press conference.
Gohil went on to suggest that the BJP’s silence on the matter indicated its intent to reintroduce the laws through its “minions.” He demanded that the BJP expel Ranaut to demonstrate its opposition to her stance, warning that failing to do so would imply the party’s true intentions of benefiting a select few by reinstating the farm laws.
The farm laws—Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce Act, Farmers’ Agreement of Price Assurance Act, and Essential Commodities Act—were first introduced in June 2020 and repealed in November 2021 after nationwide protests that started in late 2020.
