NEW DELHI: Aam Aadmi Party national convener Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday criticised the central government for its decision to exclude Delhi’s tableau from next year’s Republic Day parade, accusing the BJP-led government of playing politics over presenting state tableaus.
Kejriwal questioned the rationale behind the move, asking why Delhi, as the capital of India, was continuously denied the opportunity to showcase its tableau during the national event.
“Delhi is the capital of India and the tableau of Delhi should participate every year in the 26th January parade. For the last so many years, the tableau of Delhi is not allowed to participate in the parade. What kind of politics is this? Why do they hate the people of Delhi so much? Why should the people of Delhi vote for them?” Kejriwal asked.
The AAP leader accused the BJP of lacking a coherent narrative or vision for the upcoming Delhi assembly elections. Kejriwal claimed that the BJP’s election strategy solely revolved around attacking him and his party.
“They have no narrative for the upcoming Delhi assembly polls. They have no vision for the people of Delhi. They only abuse Kejriwal and AAP. Should we vote for them just for this?” he added.
The Delhi assembly elections are scheduled for February next year.
In response, Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva hit back at Kejriwal, accusing him of using national festivals to further his political agenda.
“The decision on which tableaux participate in the Republic Day parade is made by a designated committee, and the number of entries is limited. Kejriwal knows this very well,” Sachdeva said. “His comments are nothing but an attempt to deflect attention from real issues as elections near.”
Meanwhile, Kejriwal also announced that registrations for the ‘Mukhya Mantri Mahila Samman Yojana’ and ‘Sanjeevani Yojana’ would begin across Delhi from tomorrow. The Mahila Samman scheme will provide women in the capital with Rs 2,100 per month, while the Sanjeevani scheme will offer medical support to senior citizens aged 60 and above.
