Nikhil Kamath, the 38-year-old co-founder of Zerodha, has again retained his position as the youngest philanthropist in the Hurun India list this year as well. Zerodha co-founders Nikhil Kamath abd Nithin Kamath made it to ‘Hurun’s top Philanthropist List 2023’ after having donated Rs 110 crore to organisations dealing in climate change and environmental sustainability.
Kamath’s Rs 120 crore contribution to the Rainmatter Foundation has placed him among Hurun India list 2024. Along with his brother Nithin Kamath (45), Nikhil Kamath ranks at 15th on the list of philanthropists who donated over Rs 100 crore. In 2023, the Kamath brothers ranked at No. 12 in the list..
Nikhil Kamath’s philanthropic endeavors reportedly extend beyond India. He is the youngest Indian member of The Giving Pledge, a global initiative founded by billionaires Bill Gates and Warren Buffett. Additionally, he established the Young Indian Philanthropic Pledge (YIPP), which collaborates with startup leaders to commit at least 25% of their net worth to philanthropic causes.
Other notable young philanthropists on the list include Adar Poonawalla (43) of the Villoo Poonawalla Charitable Foundation and Vivek Vakil (35) of Asian Paints. Poonawalla emerged as the highest contributor with Rs 142 crore among the youngest contributors.

HCL founder Shiv Nadar tops Hurun India philanthropist list

HCL Technologies’ founder Shiv Nadar once again emerged as India’s most generous individual philanthropist, surpassing even the country’s richest individuals. In FY24, Nadar’s philanthropic contributions stood at Rs 2,153 crore, higher than the richest Indian Gautam Adani’s Rs 330 crore and second richest Indian Mukesh Ambani of Reliance Industries’ Rs 407 crore, as per the Edelgive-Hurun India Philanthropy List.
Ambani has moved up one place to rank at No. 2 on the giving list, while Adani maintained his fifth position. The Bajaj family with interests in auto and finance has moved up three places with a 33 per cent growth in giving at Rs 352 crore, while Kumarmangalam Birla and family stands fourth on the list with Rs 334 crore in total donations, which were up 17 per cent over the year-ago period.
In all, there were 203 individuals who donated more than Rs 5 crore. As per Hurun’s rich list, there were 1,539 individuals having a networth of over Rs 1,000 crore each and their cumulative wealth shot up 46 per cent in the year.
