Zomato gives a clarification to BSE on platform fee hike

Zomato has a clarification on the recent platform fee hike – a day after the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) reportedly sought clarification from the online food delivery platform. Zomato said that the Rs 10 platform fee hike is “not a rumour”.
In a document addressed to the BSE, Zomato said that the news about platform fee hike is not a rumour and the changes “are a routine business matter”.Here’s the complete clarification by Zomato.
Dear Sir,
We are in receipt of your email bearing ref. no. L/SURV/ONL/RV/AA/ (2024-2025)/ 77 dated October 23, 2024, seeking a clarification on news item appearing on https://www.livemint.com captioned “Zomato hikes platform fee to Rs.10 amid festive season rush”.
At the outset, we would like to state that this is not a rumor, as the source of information mentioned changes in our platform fee are a routine business matter and are done from time to time and may vary from city to city.
Hope the above addresses your queries. We remain available to address any further queries that you may have.
Zomato, however, did no mention the cities in which the fee hike is implemented.

Zomato, Swiggy platform fee hike

Zomato and Swiggy hiked platform fee in certain cities in the midst of the festive season. Both the online food delivery platforms are now charging Rs 10 as platform fee in Delhi as compared to Rs 6 earlier. Swiggy had increased its platform fee to Rs 6 in June from Rs 5 in May.
In a notification to users, Zomato explained that the fee increase is necessary to cover operational costs and maintain services during the peak festive period.
“This fee helps us pay our bills to keep Zomato running. To maintain services during the festive season, it has increased slightly,” reads the notification on the Zomato app.
This essentially means that Zomato has increased the platform fee temporarily. However, there is no such clarification or notification on the Swiggy app, so it is likely that the platform fee hike on Swiggy is permanent.
Platform fees are additional charges applied to each food order and it is in addition to the restaurant charges, delivery fees and goods and services tax.
