ELI5 Definition: "DFS" (Daily Fantasy Sports)
Unlike season-long fantasy where you draft a team for months, DFS contests last just one day. You pick a lineup of real players for tonight’s games only. You have a fake salary cap (like $50,000), and every player costs a different amount. Your goal: score the most fantasy points without going over budget.
Because there are so many games, the "player pool" (the list of guys you can pick) is stacked. Here are the household names you’ll see:
IMPORTANT: The Salary Cap Squeeze
You cannot pick all these stars. They are too expensive. You must find cheaper players who score well ("value plays") to afford the superstars. This is where the pros win.
Before you lock in your lineups on DraftKings or FanDuel, you should hear from Mike McClure.
Why listen to him?
Here are the two players McClure is building his lineups around tonight. Both play for the Tampa Bay Rays.
CALL OUT: DO NOT MISS THIS
McClure has identified one specific player who is projected to "go off for massive numbers" on Tuesday.
- This player is the difference between cashing big in tournaments/GPPs…
- …and walking away with nothing.

Q: What does "GPP" mean?
A: Guaranteed Prize Pool. These are big tournaments (thousands of entries) where only the top ~20% get paid, but the 1st place prize is huge. You need "boom" players (like the X-Factor pick) to win these.
Q: What is "Cash Game" strategy vs. "GPP" strategy?
A: Cash Games (Head-to-Head, 50/50s, Double-Ups): You want safe, high-floor players (like Mullins/Simpson) to beat half the field. GPPs: You need high-ceiling, risky players (like the X-Factor) to beat 99% of the field.
Q: Why are Skubal and Peralta noted as "debuts with new teams"?
A: They were traded recently. Pitchers changing teams can be risky (new catcher, new ballpark, new defense), but the model accounts for this. McClure’s simulations tell him if the risk is worth the salary.
Q: I play on FanDuel and DraftKings. Why are the prices different?
A: Each site sets its own salaries and scoring rules. Example: Simpson is $4,700 on DK but only $3,300 on FD. He is a much better value on FanDuel tonight. Always check the specific site’s prices!
Q: What time do I have to finalize my lineup?
A: Lineup Lock is at the start of the earliest game in your contest (usually 6:35 PM ET for the Main Slate). You can edit until that first pitch is thrown.
