The four characters that are crashing iPhones across the world – Times of India

A new bug affecting iPhones has been discovered that can cause devices to crash when a specific Unicode character is displayed. According to a report by TechCrunch, a security expert discovered that entering a specific sequence of characters, “::”, can lead to a critical crash on Apple‘s home screen interface.
We were able to replicate the crash by typing “::” into the search fields of both the Settings app and the App Library. The bug causes Springboard to briefly freeze and then restart, returning the device to the lock screen. In some cases, the screen would temporarily go black.
While Apple has not yet released an official statement regarding the bug, users on social media have been sharing their experiences. Many have reported that the crash occurs when they try to copy or paste text containing the problematic character. Others say the issue arises when they receive a message or notification with the character.
Apple is likely working on a software update to address the issue and prevent future crashes. In the meantime, users are advised to avoid copying or pasting text from unknown sources and to be cautious when interacting with messages or notifications from unfamiliar contacts.
