What Happened?
A wildfire called the Rocky Canyon Fire started on Friday, August 7, 2026 in Utah. By Sunday, it had grown to 2,800 acres (that’s about 2,100 football fields!) and was 0% contained. Firefighters are working hard, but the fire is still spreading.

Where Can Evacuees Go?
A shelter has been set up at:
Morgan High School’s Trojan Century Center
699 E. Young St., Morgan, Utah

What Are Firefighters Doing?
Crews are using several methods to fight the fire:
- Dozers – clearing lines to stop the fire’s spread
- Roads – using existing roads as fire breaks
- Line construction – digging trenches by hand
- Aviation – planes and helicopters dropping water/retardant
- Burn operations – intentionally lighting small fires to remove fuel (this creates smoke but helps control the main fire)
Where Is the Fire Heading?
As of Sunday, the fire:
- Jumped across State Route 65
- Is moving northeast
- Heading toward the area between Henefer and Echo Reservoir along the I-84 corridor
What Should YOU Do?

- Leave immediately if you are – don’t pack, just go

1. How do I know if I need to evacuate?
Check the evacuation zones listed above. If you live from Whites Crossing to East Canyon Dam, in West Henefer (Hog Back to West Henefer Road), or at the north end of East Canyon State Park – leave now.
2. Can I go home to get my things?
No. If an evacuation order is active, do not return. It puts you and firefighters in danger. Your life matters more than possessions.
3. What if I have pets/livestock?
The shelter at Morgan High School can help. Contact local animal control or the shelter directly for large animals.
4. Why are they doing "burn operations" if there’s already a fire?
Firefighters intentionally burn small areas ahead of the main fire to remove fuel (dry grass, trees). This creates a "black line" the big fire can’t cross. It makes smoke but helps control the blaze.
