1Jerry Jones (the owner of the Dallas Cowboys) and his team have done a great job fixing their defensive players after a really bad ("abomination") 2025 season.
Because of these worries, more and more fans are begging the Cowboys to sign Bobby Wagner, a famous linebacker.
Important Point (Lee Vowell’s Quote):
"But if he wants to keep going, he would obviously have to find a team that needs an inside linebacker but is likely unwilling to pay top dollar to sign one. Unfortunately for Seahawks fans, this could mean that Wagner ends up with the Dallas Cowboys."
Nobody thinks the Cowboys and Seahawks are huge enemies, but there is some recent bad blood:
If Vowell believes Seattle fans would "hate" seeing Wagner sign with Dallas, then maybe that’s even more reason for Jerry Jones to bring the Los Angeles native to Arlington (where the Cowboys play)!
Putting aside jokes that the Cowboys are cheap (or "pinch pennies"), Vowell is right. Even though the head coach Brian Schottenheimer says publicly that the roster is fine, Dallas is really hurting at inside linebacker. Wagner, despite being a legend, won’t cost a fortune.
A defensive group anchored by Wagner alongside DeMarvion Overshown and Dee Winters would give opposing offenses plenty to worry about. Better yet, it would let younger players like Shemar James and Jaishawn Barham slowly learn as backup players, instead of being forced to play huge roles right away.
Callout for Important Points:
- Wagner is a cheap, experienced leader who would immediately help the defense.
- The Cowboys have a tight budget, but they can still make the money work.
- Wagner already knows the head coach, making this a natural fit.
- This signing would make a rival team’s fans unhappy, which is a fun bonus given their history!
The Dallas Cowboys had a terrible 2025 season on defense and need to help their new coach, Christian Parker. Signing 36-year-old Bobby Wagner makes perfect sense—he’s a talented, affordable leader who already knows the head coach. It would also make Seattle fans (and their writers) unhappy, which is just an extra perk given their recent history. All signs point to this being a match made in heaven, and there is no love lost between Dallas and Seattle right now!
Bobby Wagner is a very famous football player who plays "linebacker" (a defensive leader who tackles the ball carrier). He is 36 years old but still plays at a high level.
Cap space is like a budget limit. The NFL says teams can only spend a certain amount of money on players. The Cowboys have $5.49 million left in their budget, but they can still find ways to sign Wagner.
Wagner used to play for Seattle and is a legend there. A writer named Lee Vowell says Seattle fans would "hate" to see him help a team like Dallas, especially since the teams have some recent bad history.
The MIKE linebacker is the main middle linebacker. Think of him as the captain of the defensive team who helps call the shots and tackles runners.
Lawrence used to play for Dallas but joined Seattle and won a Super Bowl, while taking a playful jab at his old team. This adds to the playful rivalry between the Cowboys and Seahawks.
