What Is This Guide and How Do I Use It?
Welcome! If you play fantasy baseball, you know that sometimes you need a starting pitcher for just one game—maybe your guy is injured, on a bad streak, or you just have an open spot. That’s called “streaming.”
Every weekday morning, Nick (the author) watches all the scheduled starting pitchers for today, tomorrow, and the day after tomorrow and sorts them into four easy tiers. Think of it like a traffic light:

| Auto-Start | Green | Just start them. Don’t overthink it. These are aces or pitchers with dream matchups. |
| Probably Start | Purple | Good bet. They have a >50% chance to do well. Start in most leagues unless you have a better option. |
| Questionable Start | Yellow | Meh. Only use if you’re desperate. Not a target, but better than nothing. |
| Do Not Start | Red | Stay away. Risk outweighs reward. Only for absolute emergencies. |
Important: These rankings are built for 12-team leagues. If your league is deeper or shallower, adjust slightly. Also, streaming isn’t perfect—Nick says “if they work out over half the time, I’d consider it a success.” So don’t get mad if a pick flops!
How to Get the Most Out of This
- Check the date – Rankings are for Monday 8/10, Tuesday 8/11, Wednesday 8/12.
- Match your league’s roster rules – Streamers are defined as “rostered in 20% or fewer leagues” (per FantasyPros).
- Watch the Twitch AMA – Nick goes live weekdays 10 AM–12 PM ET at twitch.tv/pitcherlist to explain his picks. Ask questions there! He doesn’t usually reply to site comments.
- Know the “Green/Yellow/Red” tags on Nick’s daily pick:
- Green = Tier 2 (Probably Start) – safe everywhere.
- Yellow = Tier 3 (Questionable) – only if you need something.
- Red = Tier 4 (Do Not Start) – truly desperate only.

| Rockie Road | — | Rockies playing away from Coors Field. Great matchup for opposing pitchers. |
| Holly | — | A solid, reliable starter (15-team value) with decent ratios and 20–25% K-rate. Think Marcus Stroman or Chris Bassitt. |

Auto-Starts (Fire and Forget)
- Tarik Skubal vs. KC – Aces gonna ace.
- Logan Henderson @ SD – Making a serious AGA case.
- Trevor Rogers @ MIN – Back on track, can’t deny him.
- Sonny Gray @ TOR – Sonny being Sonny.
Probably Starts (Strong Leans)
- Reid Detmers vs. TEX – Had an off day last start; giving a mulligan.
- Jacob Lopez vs. TB – Shocking for Sacré Verde, but he’s locked in (4 straight good starts).
Questionable Starts (Desperation Only)
- Christian Scott @ ATL – Handled lefties well last time, but splitter/curve still shaky.
- MacKenzie Gore @ LAA – HIPSTER alert! Angels offense weak; if change/curve work, Ks will come.

- Hunter Dobbins vs. PHI – New cut-fastball approach intriguing; higher on him than most.

- Michael Soroka vs. COL – Still ILL: only 57 pitches in last rehab start (Aug 4).
- Bryce Elder vs. NYM – Hot streak feels fluky.
- Dean Kremer vs. BAL – Skills suspect in Twins debut; revenge game narrative, but…
- Blade Tidwell vs. HOU – Didn’t impress in MLB return; missing “juice & precision.”
- Andrew Painter @ STL – Went back to four-seamer heavy… and Nick hates it.
- Freddy Peralta @ ATH – Second half of “Green Mile” (two starts in Sacré Verde). Approach shift may come, but don’t bet on it.
- Gabriel Hughes @ ARI – Away from Coors, but cutter must stay glove-side.

- Brandon Young @ MIN – Four-seamer impressing; weak offense = chance to shine.
- Tanner Bibee @ DET – New lateral-movement focus; insane changeup command last start.
- Martín Pérez vs. NYM – Locked in post-IL; rain shortened last gem to 3 IP.
- Cody Bradford @ LAA – Still ILL return from TJS. 90 mph heater + whiffs if changeup stays down… or heater gets crushed.
- Nick Lodolo @ CHW – Still ILL (blisters, one rehab start). Rhythm issues like 2025.
- Michael Wacha @ LAD – Fantastic year (Holly), but it’s the Dodgers. Even if they’re slumping, don’t trust it.

- Mason Barnett vs. TB – Hard cutter intriguing, but too risky in Sacré Verde while stretching out.

FAQ (Beginner Edition)
Q: What does “streaming” actually mean in fantasy baseball?
A: It means adding a starting pitcher from the waiver wire just for his next start, then dropping him after. You “stream” him in for one game because he has a favorable matchup.
Q: Why are there only pitchers rostered in 20% or fewer leagues?
A: Because if a guy is rostered in 80% of leagues, he’s not on your waiver wire! These are true streamers—guys you can actually pick up today.
Q: What’s a “Quality Start” vs. a “PQS”?
A: Quality Start = 6+ IP, ≤3 ER. PQS (Poor Quality Start) = exactly 6 IP, 3 ER (4.50 ERA). It counts as a QS but hurts your ERA/WHIP. Nick tracks PQS separately.
Q: Should I start a “Questionable Start” pitcher if I’m in first place?
A: Probably not. Questionable = “I don’t want to, but you could do worse.” If you’re winning, stick to Auto/Probably tiers. Save Questionable for when you’re desperate for Ks or a Win.
Q: How do I know if the probable pitcher changes?
A: Nick notes: “These matchups are subject to change… there will be times when I have the incorrect pitcher.” Check your league’s lineup page or follow beat writers 30–60 mins before game time.
