Ryan Gerard’s Golf Bag: A Super Simple Guide for Beginners

Meet Ryan Gerard

Ryan Gerard is a professional golfer who, in July 2025, won his first ever PGA Tour event (the PGA Tour is the big league of men’s golf in the USA). Since that win, he has been playing really well.

He is what we call a Titleist staffer. That just means he gets paid by a golf company called Titleist to use their gear. Almost his whole bag is filled with Titleist clubs!

Important Point: Ryan uses mostly Titleist clubs, but a few clubs from other brands sneak into his set!

The Driver (The Club for Hitting Super Far)

  • Ryan’s driver is the Titleist GT3, set to 11° (the “°” means loft, or how much the club face tilts up to help the ball fly).
  • The stick inside the club (called a shaft) is a Mitsubishi Tensei 1K Blue 60 X.

Fairway Woods (Clubs for Long Shots From the Grass)

Ryan uses TaylorMade fairway woods (these are clubs for hitting far, but not as far as the driver):

  • A Qi10 HL 3-wood set at 16.5°
  • A Qi35 9-wood set at 24°
  • Both have Fujikura Ventus TR Red 7 X shafts

The Utility Iron Swap

Depending on how the golf course looks that day:

  • He might take out the 9-wood
  • And put in a Titleist T250 3-iron (a thin, long iron club) instead

The Irons (For Medium Shots to the Green)

  • His 4-iron is a Titleist T250
  • His 5-iron through 9-iron are Titleist T100 irons
  • Shafts:
    • 4-iron: Mitsubishi MMT Hybrid 100 TX
    • 5- to 9-iron: KBS C-Taper 125 S+

The Wedges (For Short, High Shots)

Wedges are used near the hole. Ryan’s setup is a mix of old and new:

  • 46° wedge: older Titleist Vokey SM10 (shaft: KBS C-Taper 125 S+)
  • 50°, 54°, 60° wedges: new Titleist Vokey SM11 (shaft: True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue S300)

Interesting Fact: Ryan uses an older wedge at 46° but brand-new wedges for the other three!

The Putter and Ball

  • Putter: Ryan switches between two styles:
    • A “mallet” (fat, round-looking)
    • A “blade” (thin, straight)
    • Most recently he used the Scotty Cameron Phantom 3 (a mallet)
  • Golf ball: He plays the Titleist Pro V1, which is one of the best balls you can buy.

FAQ

1. What does “WITB” mean?
WITB stands for “What’s In The Bag” — it’s a list of all the clubs and gear a golfer uses.

2. Why does Ryan use both old and new wedges?
He uses an older SM10 wedge at 46° and newer SM11 wedges at 50°, 54°, and 60° — probably because he likes how each feels for different shots.

3. What is a utility iron?
It’s a long iron (like a 3-iron) that can replace a fairway wood when the course is firm or windy.

4. Is the Titleist Pro V1 a good ball for beginners?
It’s one of the best balls for pros, but beginners can use it too — it just costs more than basic balls!
