Packers Practice Report: Final Session Before Family Night at Lambeau Field

What’s Happening This Week?

The Green Bay Packers held their last practice before Friday’s Family Night at Lambeau Field on Thursday. While fans couldn’t attend this practice, reporters were there to watch. Here’s the big news: Family Night will be streamed live on Packers.com for the second year in a row! That means fans everywhere — even if you don’t live in Wisconsin — can watch the team practice before the preseason games start.

Important: Family Night is your best chance to see the starters play this summer. The Packers have been very careful with their main players in past preseasons. For example, starting running back Josh Jacobs only played two snaps in the entire 2025 preseason!

Injury Report: Who’s Hurt Right Now?

Several players are on special injury lists. Think of these like "waiting rooms" where players recover before they can practice again.

Players on the "Physically Unable to Perform" (PUP) List

These players got hurt during football activities and aren’t ready to practice yet:

  • Luke Musgrave (Tight End) — Neck injury This appears to be the most serious new injury
  • Javon Hargrave (Defensive Line) — Knee injury Described as short-term
  • Jordon Riley (Defensive Line) — Achilles injury Carrying over from 2025
  • Micah Parsons (Edge Rusher) — Knee injury Carrying over from 2025
  • Matt Orzech (Long Snapper) — Calf injury Described as short-term

Player on the "Non-Football Injury" (NFI) List

  • Chris Brooks (Running Back) — Hamstring injury Hurt outside the facility

Coach’s Update: Head Coach Matt LaFleur said he hopes Brooks returns "sooner rather than later," which is a good sign it’s not a major injury.

Missed Thursday’s Practice (Short-Term Issues)

Player Position Injury
Josh Jacobs Running Back Groin
Carrington Valentine Cornerback Hamstring
Johnathan Baldwin Safety/Slot Defender Knee Severity unknown

Offensive Line: The Musical Chairs Situation

Two starting linemen — Aaron Banks (Left Guard) and Zach Bako-Bewele (Right Tackle) — are still out. So the Packers have been mixing and matching backups.

Today’s Lineup Shuffle

  1. Jacob Monk → Usually Left Guard backup
  2. Darian Kinnard → Usually Right Tackle backup
  3. Anthony Belton (normally Right Guard) → Got heavy reps at Right Tackle today!
  4. Jager Burton (Rookie) → Stepped in at Guard
  5. Donovan Jennings → Also got some 1st-team Guard reps

Current 53-Man Roster Projection: Offensive Line

The Packers usually keep 10 offensive linemen (sometimes 11). Here’s how the depth chart looks right now:

Rank Player Notes
1-5 Starters (When healthy)
6 Darian Kinnard Only true backup Tackle
7 Jacob Monk Primarily Interior (Guard/Center)
8 Jager Burton Rookie, Interior
9 Donovan Jennings Interior
10 John Williams 2nd-year player, missed all last year with back injury. Playing EVERY position now!

Critical Insight: If two tackles get hurt (any combo of Jordan Morgan, Bako-Bewele, or Kinnard), Anthony Belton is likely the next man up at tackle since everyone else plays inside.

Running Back: MarShawn Lloyd Making Noise!

MarShawn Lloyd (3rd round pick, Year 3) has only played 10 regular-season snaps in his career due to injuries. But today? He looked great!

  • Got most of the 1st-team snaps with Jacobs out
  • Made several big plays in practice
  • Current projection: #2 Running Back behind Jacobs for the 2026 season

Defensive Line: Anthony Campbell Turning Heads

With Hargrave and Devonte Wyatt (practicing but not in team drills) out, Anthony Campbell has been working with the 2nd-team defense.

Campbell’s Camp Highlights:

  • Multiple pass breakups
  • "Sacked" QB Tyrod Taylor several times
  • Pushing for the final roster spot (likely 6th DL spot)

Current DL Roster Locks (5 spots):

  1. Javon Hargrave
  2. Devonte Wyatt
  3. Chris McClellan (Rookie, 3rd round)
  4. Warren Brinson (2nd-year)
  5. Karl Brooks

Campbell vs. Nazir Stackhouse for that 6th and final spot — watch this battle on Family Night!

Tight Ends: Thin Room, Chippy Practice

The Packers are very thin at Tight End. So when safety Javon Bullard popped TE Josh Whyle pretty hard in practice… the offense got mad. Bullard apologized quickly and it didn’t escalate.

Note: Zero fights in camp so far! Good discipline.

GM Praise: Skyy Moore "Expected to Help in 2026"

General Manager Brian Gutekunst had big praise for receiver/returner Skyy Moore Thursday. He said he "expects" Moore to help the team in 2026.

Roster Impact: Pencil Skyy Moore onto your 53-man roster projection in ink.

Special Teams: Kick Return Competition Heating Up

Today the team practiced kick returns. Here’s who lined up back there:

Returners at Practice:

Wide Receivers:

  • Bo Melton
  • J. Michael Sturdivant
  • Will Sheppard
  • Skyy Moore

Running Backs:

  • Pierre Strong Jr.
  • Jaden Nixon

Not participating: Savion Williams (checked by medical staff, returned later)

Recent History:

  • 2025 Regular Season: Savion Williams was the main kick returner
  • 2025 Postseason: Josh Jacobs & Keisean Nixon handled returns
  • 2026 Camp: Jacobs & Nixon have been practicing returns… but don’t expect them to do it in real games this year.

Summary: Key Takeaways

  1. Watch Family Night Friday on Packers.com — best look at starters before preseason
  2. Injury situation manageable — only Musgrave’s neck looks long-term serious
  3. Offensive line depth — versatile but tackle depth is thin (Belton is emergency tackle)
  4. MarShawn Lloyd — finally healthy and flashing #2 RB upside
  5. Anthony Campbell — sneaky roster bubble guy to watch on DL
  6. Skyy Moore — GM endorsement = roster lock
  7. Kick return job — wide open competition among young players

FAQ: Your Questions Answered

1. What is Family Night and why does it matter?

Family Night is an annual open practice at Lambeau Field. It matters because the Packers barely play their starters in actual preseason games — this is your best chance to see the "real" team in action before the season starts.

2. What’s the difference between PUP and NFI lists?

  • PUP (Physically Unable to Perform): Hurt during football activities (practice, games, workouts at facility)
  • NFI (Non-Football Injury): Hurt away from football (at home, car accident, etc.)
Both mean the player can’t practice, but the rules for when they can return are slightly different.

3. Why does it matter that Belton is practicing at tackle?

The Packers only have one true backup tackle (Kinnard) behind the starters. If two tackles get hurt, they need someone who can play outside. Belton (normally a guard) getting tackle reps means he’s the "break glass in case of emergency" option.

4. Is MarShawn Lloyd finally going to be good?

He’s finally healthy and getting opportunity. He was a 3rd-round pick with talent — injuries just derailed his first two years. Family Night and preseason games will tell us if the flashes are real.

5. How many offensive linemen will the Packers keep?

Almost certainly 10 (sometimes 11). Right now, 9 spots seem spoken for. The 10th spot is a battle between Jennings, Williams, and maybe someone else.
