Jio president: Reliance Jio True 5G Network extends battery life by up to 40 percent

Reliance Jio has announced enhancements to its “True 5G” service. These new updates aim to offer users a better experience. During its Q2 FY25 earnings call, the company highlighted these improvements that can deliver high-quality 5G connectivity. Jio claims to be the only telecom operator in India offering 5G through a standalone 5G (SA) network architecture. This approach delivers faster speeds, reduced latency, and improved power efficiency for devices, extending battery life by 20-40%.

How JioTrue5G can extend device battery life

During the earnings call, Kiran Thomas, President of Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited, noted that Jio’s network integrates a unique mix of spectrum assets and advanced technical features, including carrier aggregation and standalone (SA) architecture.
Unlike traditional 5G networks that depend on existing 4G infrastructure, Jio’s SA 5G is designed from the ground up to enhance performance and efficiency, he highlighted.
Thomas also added that Jio’s intelligent spectrum allocation system helps conserve device battery life by optimising communication frequencies.

Other JioTrue5G updates announced

Apart from device battery efficiency, Jio has implemented multiple other key innovations to enhance its 5G network performance. This includes:

Voice Over New Radio (VoNR)

This enables voice calls directly over the 5G network and claims to deliver superior voice quality and faster call connection. Jio is collaborating with leading smartphone manufacturers to make VoNR the default calling option on 5G-enabled devices.

Enhanced Location Services

This feature will provide precise location tracking without heavy GPS dependence and will use advanced algorithms including angle of arrival technology. Reliance claims that this tech achieves accuracy within 10 meters which is comparable to GPS and helps conserve device battery while supporting navigation and location-based services.

Network Interference Management

With this feature, Reliance employs time division duplex technology that effectively manages interference across multiple spectrum bands. This feature promises to maintain network capacity in high-traffic areas and ensures a consistent user experience even in crowded locations.
