The 2026 Wisconsin State Fair is almost here! But before you grab your cream puffs and hop in the car, there’s something you really need to know: getting there is going to be trickier than usual.
Two big things are happening at the same time:
- Major construction on I-94 (a 3.5-mile stretch in Milwaukee County)
- Brewers home games at American Family Field during opening weekend (Aug 6–9)
IMPORTANT: Expect heavy traffic, lane closures, and ramp shutdowns — especially during game times. Plan ahead or you might spend more time in your car than on the midway!
How Construction Affects Your Route
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is rebuilding a section of I-94 between the Stadium Interchange and 70th Street. Here’s what that means for you:
For Westbound Drivers (Coming from the East)
- Only 2 lanes open (normally 3+)
- Hawley Road and 68th Street ramps are CLOSED
- Most fair traffic will be funneled to the 84th Street exit/entrance ramps
- Extra congestion around Brewers game start/end times (especially Aug 7 at 6:40 p.m. — rush hour + game = "perfect storm")
For Eastbound Drivers (Coming from the West)
- You’ll still face traffic backups and ramp closures
- Same ramp closures apply (Hawley Rd & 68th St closed)

Brewers Games = Extra Traffic (Opening Weekend)
The Brewers are home Aug 6–9 — right when the fair opens. Games mean thousands of extra cars at the Stadium Interchange (where I-94 meets I-41/US-41).

Parking at the Fairgrounds: Know Before You Go
You can only make RIGHT-HAND TURNS into fair parking lots. Plan your approach so you’re turning right!

Coming from the EAST (Downtown, Lakefront, etc.)
Best on NON-game days:
- Take I-94 West to Hwy 175 / Brewers Blvd EXIT
- Turn LEFT (south) on Brewers Blvd
- Follow to W. Greenfield Ave
- Turn RIGHT (west) → follow signs to fair parking
ON GAME DAYS: Brewers Blvd will be packed. Use a different route.
Coming from the WEST (Brookfield, Waukesha, etc.)
Option A (Recommended):
- Take I-94 East to Hwy 100 NORTH
- Follow Hwy 100 to Blue Mound Rd
- Turn LEFT (west) on Blue Mound Rd
- Turn RIGHT (north) on S. 76th St → fairgrounds
Option B:
- Exit I-94 at S. 70th St
- Turn RIGHT on Main St
- Turn LEFT on S. 76th St → fairgrounds
GOOD NEWS: Traffic lights and intersection capacity on these routes have been upgraded to handle extra cars.

Leaving the Fair: Don’t Get Stuck!
Eastbound I-94 (toward downtown) has its own problems:
- Long-term RIGHT LANE CLOSED from 35th St to 25th St → only 2 lanes moving
- Stadium Interchange backups during/after Brewers games
BEST EXIT STRATEGY: Leave before 5 p.m. on game days, or wait until after 10 p.m. to miss the post-game rush.
Take the Bus: MCTS Routes 18 & 33
No Waukesha County shuttle this year, but Milwaukee County Transit (MCTS) runs two routes right to the fair.

- Runs: Every 15–20 min
- Weekdays: 4:03 a.m. – 1:41 a.m.
