Imagine a beach town where every single building spot for a hotel is now taken. That’s exactly what’s happening in Pensacola Beach, Florida! On Friday morning, a company called Innisfree Hotels started building a brand-new Hampton Inn and Suites hotel.
Important Point: The local Island Authority says this piece of land is the very last empty spot on Pensacola Beach where a hotel can be built. Once this is done, the beach is "full" of hotels!
The new hotel will be built on Via De Luna Drive. This spot isn’t empty by accident—it used to be home to the Clarion Hotel. Sadly, that old hotel was destroyed by a big storm called Hurricane Ivan a long time ago.
Innisfree Hotels bought this property in 2021. As Ted Ent, the CEO of Innisfree, said, they knew they had to make something "really special" because it’s the last chance to build on the beach. They spent a lot of time planning the food, drinks, and pool deck. Since there were no water slides on the beach before, they decided to add a waterslide complex. He also shared that the beach’s great reputation and the friendly service the community gives visitors will help attract guests to this new spot.
This isn’t just any hotel—it’s going to be huge and packed with fun things to do!
Here are the cool features:
Building this hotel is like dropping a stone in a pond—the good effects will ripple out to everyone nearby.
Ashlee Hofberger, a local leader (District 4 commissioner), says the hotel will bring in over $16 million in extra tax money for Escambia County. "Taxes" are like a small fee people pay to the government when they buy things or stay somewhere, which helps pay for community stuff.
This extra money will be split up like this:
Julian MacQueen, the founder and chairman of Innisfree Hotels, said this is a $100 million investment into the community. That’s a lot of zeros! He explained that this money will generate taxes and jobs, creating a "ripple effect" of good things throughout the community.
The hotel will also create about 150 new jobs. The company promises to hire people from Escambia County and Santa Rosa County. They love to promote workers from inside the company to bigger roles (like manager or boss).
For years, Pensacola Beach had some problems in the summer:
County leaders say they thought about these problems during the planning process. The good news?
Important Point: All the parking the hotel needs will be right on the hotel property. Hofberger confirmed they will have enough spaces for both workers and guests, so they won’t add to the street parking crunch.
Here is the simple timeline for the building:
While the hotel will be the most expensive one ever built on the beach, Innisfree says the price to rent a room will be fair and competitive with other beach hotels.
Pensacola Beach is officially out of room for new hotels! Innisfree Hotels is building the very last one on the old Clarion Hotel site, which was destroyed by Hurricane Ivan. It’s a $100 million, 215-room project with water slides, a lazy river, and a big restaurant. It will create 150 jobs and bring over $16 million in tax money to the county. All parking will be on-site to avoid traffic issues, and guests can expect to check in starting early 2028. This final project aims to be a special boost for the community and visitors alike.
1. Why is this hotel such a big deal for Pensacola Beach?
It’s a big deal because it is being built on the last piece of land allowed for a hotel on the beach. After this, no more new hotels can be built there!
2. Will the new hotel cause worse traffic and parking problems?
No. County leaders made sure the hotel has all the parking it needs right on its own property for both guests and workers, so it won’t use up public street parking.
3. When can I book a room at the new Hampton Inn and Suites?
The building work starts this Monday, and the hotel is expected to be finished and ready for visitors in early 2028.
4. Will it cost a lot more to stay there compared to other beach hotels?
Even though it is the most expensive hotel to build on the beach, the company says the nightly room prices will be competitive, meaning they will be similar to other hotels nearby.
