Seamless check-in! DigiYatra launched at 9 more airports; check list – Times of India

NEW DELHI: The DigiYatra facility, a biometric-based system that utilizes facial recognition technology to streamline terminal entry and security clearance processes at airports, was officially launched at nine Airport Authority of India (AAI) on Friday.
Union Minister of Civil Aviation K Ram Mohan Naidu officially launched the new facility at Visakhapatnam Airport during the ceremony and virtually extended it to eight other AAI Airports, signifying a major advancement in delivering a new digital experience to travelers across the nation.

As part of the launch event, the minister mentioned the primary advantage of this facility, stating that it will offer passengers a seamless and contactless experience at an increased number of airports throughout the country.
Addressing the event Naidu said, “I am happy to announce that today we are inaugurating 9 Digi Yatra facilities in 9 airports in the country…the most important thing of this Digi Yatra facility is the seamless and contactless facility to the passengers.”
Naidu highlighted the transformative nature of the Digi Yatra facility, describing it as a “game-changing technological advancement in the civil aviation Industry.” He further said that the system’s growing popularity, with over 3 crore users already embracing this innovative solution.
The facility was first launched at New Delhi, Bengaluru, and Varanasi airports in December 2022 and has since been introduced at a few other airports as well.
DigiYatra is designed to enhance facial recognition technology to streamline terminal entry and security clearance at airports at various checkpoints, such as entry points, security checks, and aircraft boarding making the process seamless, hassle-free, and paperless. It operates as a decentralized, mobile-based ID storage platform where air travelers can securely store their IDs and travel documents.
The system also supports self-bag drop and check-in by identifying passengers through facial recognition, eliminating the need for multiple identity checks and enabling paperless travel.
The minister said that India currently has 157 airports, and the government aims to increase this number to 400 in the coming years, with active efforts already in progress.
