Linda is a tennis player from a small country in Europe called the Czech Republic. Today, she is playing in the Wimbledon finals—the last, most important match of a super famous tennis contest held in England on grass courts. She is playing against another Czech player, Karolína Muchová. Because they are from the same country, they are called "countrywomen."
Linda’s mother, Ivana, died in summer 2024 after a long fight with cancer (a serious sickness where harmful cells grow in the body). Even though Ivana is gone, Linda thinks of her during today’s big match.
Earlier in 2024, Ivana spoke to a Czech newspaper called Denik.cz about Linda’s tennis path. In her own words:
“I’m having a hard time finding words, it’s amazing, it’s like we’re living a beautiful dream! When Linda and I started going to the tennis courts at the age of seven, we never thought she would ever make it this far. We were expecting a normal, relaxed life with tennis. My husband and I supported our daughters’s tennis efforts, which we had already at a more mature age, mainly during her school years with our time and trips to tournaments. Otherwise, Linda comes from normal circumstances.”
Simply put: Ivana was amazed and happy that Linda became so good. She and Linda’s dad helped by spending time and taking Linda to matches while she was in school. They were just a regular family.
Ivana also said:
“Linda and I have been in the tennis world for a while now, such moments have already come, for me on the current journey Linda and her team have shown incredible results considering the conditions she comes from. We started relatively late, moreover from a village with two hundred inhabitants against girls from big cities and better-off families.”
This means: Linda did wonderfully even though she began later than some, and she came from a tiny village while other players had big-city advantages.
Linda’s story is special because:
Important Point: Linda’s mom Ivana said the family’s background made Linda’s success “incredible” because they didn’t have the same resources as others.
Ivana shared that she could not fly to Australia for the Australian Open (another huge tennis event far away) because she was ill. She explained:
“I’m sick, the long journey itself is exhausting. We watch everything at home, keep our fingers crossed and stay in touch. Over the years, we’ve traveled together a lot.”
So they cheered from their living room.
Wimbledon was always Ivana’s favorite. In 2023, she hoped to go but couldn’t due to health. She said she loved the grass-court atmosphere and the yummy tradition of strawberries with whipped cream. Sadly, Ivana passed away before Wimbledon 2024, so she never saw Linda play there again.
Linda’s father, Drahos Nosek, is retired (not working a job anymore). Ivana said in that same 2024 interview:
“My husband spends most of his time here at home, walking and cycling in the mountains.”
They live in a small town called Bystřička, in the Vsetín area of the Czech Republic.
When Linda won “the most successful athlete in the city of Přerov” award in 2022, her dad picked up the prize for her. He said:
“We never expected her to be in the top 100 so quickly. When you realize how many tennis players in the world are produced by Russia, America, China and other countries, and we from the Czech Republic, from a village, come into this, it’s more or less a shock.”
In plain talk: Many big countries make many tennis stars, so a girl from a tiny Czech village doing so well is a big surprise!
Linda says her parents never forced only tennis. Before the finals, she told a newspaper:
“I had, like, maybe six, seven, eight hobbies that I was focusing on. It was never mainly tennis. I had all the gymnastics, all the horse riding, just all the sports in the world because my parents were very into any sort of movement.”
So Linda tried gymnastics, horse riding, and lots of other active fun because Mom and Dad loved all kinds of moving.
Linda Nosková is a Czech tennis player competing in the Wimbledon final today. Her late mother Ivana, who died in 2024 after cancer, always believed in her. Linda came from a tiny village and a normal family but achieved huge success with her parents’ love and support. Ivana couldn’t travel to some events due to illness but adored Wimbledon. Linda’s dad Drahos is proud and amazed. Linda’s childhood was full of many sports, showing that fun and movement matter. Her journey proves big dreams can grow from small places.
