If you watch Fox & Friends, you might have done a double-take recently. Steve Doocy — the guy who sat on that famous couch for decades — was back in the New York City studio!
But don’t get too used to it. He’s only there for one week, filling in for his coworker Lawrence B. Jones while Jones takes some time off.
Important Point: This is a temporary visit. Steve Doocy is not moving back to New York or returning as a full-time in-studio host.
Think of Steve Doocy like the friendly uncle who’s been at the family breakfast table forever.
Remember those old Dunkin’ Donuts commercials where the baker’s alarm goes off at 3:30 AM and his wife says, "It’s time to make the donuts"?
That was Steve’s real life for 30 years!
Important Point: Steve didn’t quit Fox News. He just changed how he works for them.
Instead of sitting in the NYC studio every day, Steve now has a custom-made role that lets him work from Florida and travel the country.
Important Point: Steve compared his new schedule to Johnny Carson — the legendary late-night host who taped his show in Burbank, CA only 3 nights a week and spent the rest of his time elsewhere.
Since moving to Florida, Steve’s been living his best life traveling the U.S. and hanging out with famous folks:
| Celebrity | What They’re Known For |
|---|---|
| Paula Deen | Celebrity chef & Southern cooking queen |
| Dave Portnoy | Founder of Barstool Sports |
| Lara Trump | Eric Trump’s wife, political commentator |
| Tyrese Gibson | Actor & singer (Fast & Furious franchise) |
| Jason Aldean | Country music superstar |
When Steve left for Florida, he put his longtime NJ home on the market.
Important Point: Steve and his wife Kathy are about to welcome their 5th grandchild!
"I’ll be back to my coast-to-coast hosting next week, faraway from NYC — but this is a nice chance to drop in on HQ to catch up with my pals over an insanely expensive cup of coffee."
| Then (2024 & before) | Now (2025 & beyond) |
|---|---|
| Live in New Jersey | Live in Jupiter, Florida |
| Wake up at 3:30 AM daily | Wake up whenever he wants! |
| Commute to NYC in the dark | Work remotely + travel USA |
| Full-time in-studio host | Coast-to-Coast Host (custom role) |
| Wear neckties daily | "May never see me in a necktie again" |
| 6,828 early wake-ups | Zero early wake-ups required |
Bottom line: Steve Doocy didn’t retire — he upgraded his lifestyle while keeping the job he loves. Smart move, Steve!
Nope! He explicitly said: "I am not retiring, I’m not leaving the show. I’m still a host — but it’s time for a change." He just changed how he hosts.
He’s filling in for Lawrence B. Jones for one week only while Jones takes time off. He’ll be gone again after this week.
It’s a custom-created position where Steve works from Florida, travels the country filming segments, and appears on Fox & Friends remotely — no daily studio commute required.
Yes! Listed at $1.8M, sold for $1.73M within days of listing in June 2025. The buyer snapped it up fast!
Peter Doocy is Steve’s son and a White House correspondent for Fox News. They even attended the White House Correspondents’ Dinner together recently. Like father, like son!
Want more celebrity real estate news? Steve’s Florida neighborhood isn’t far from where Eric and Lara Trump live — so the Doocys have some pretty famous neighbors now!
