NFL 2026: Ranking the Top 10 Edge Rushers (Explained Simply)
What Is This All About?
The 2026 NFL training camps are almost here. To get ready, ESPN asked league executives, coaches, and scouts to help rank the top 10 players at 11 different positions. This is the seventh year ESPN has done these rankings.
Think of an "edge rusher" as a defensive player whose main job is to run around the outside of the offense and tackle the quarterback before he can throw the ball.
How the Ranking Works (Like a Class Vote)
Here is how ESPN made the list:
- Voters picked their own top 10 players at each position.
- ESPN added up the results.
- Players were ranked by:
- How many top-10 votes they got
- Their average score
- Dozens of interviews
- ESPN analyst Matt Bowen and ESPN Research helped with film study (watching game videos).
- More than 70 voters sent in at least one ballot; many voted on every position.
- Follow-up calls helped decide final spots.
Important: This was NOT a "who will be best in five years" list or a "career achievement award." It only answers one simple question: Who are the best players right now?
When Did the Rankings Come Out?
ESPN released one position per day:
- Running backs – July 6
- Cornerbacks – July 7
- Edge rushers – July 8
- Defensive tackles – July 9
- Tight ends – July 10
- Offensive tackles – July 11
- Interior offensive linemen – July 12
- Quarterbacks – July 13
- Off-ball linebackers – July 14
- Wide receivers – July 15
- Safeties – July 16
Why Edge Rushers Are Easy to Rank
The NFL has a "golden era" of pass rushers right now — many future Hall of Famers and young stars.
For edge rushers, the names were super clear:
- Nine players appeared on at least 70% of ballots.
- Six appeared on 90%.
- Every first-place vote went to one player (who just changed teams).
- Five different players got at least one second-place vote.
- One player rose four spots; another fell five spots.

- Josh Hines-Allen (Jaguars): Not elite, but consistently very good power rush.
- Also received votes: Travon Walker, Jaelan Phillips, Montez Sweat, Laiatu Latu, Nick Herbig, Alex Highsmith.
Summary
ESPN asked NFL insiders to rank the best edge rushers right now for 2026. Myles Garrett was the clear No. 1 on all ballots after a record season. Micah Parsons, Will Anderson Jr., Maxx Crosby, and Aidan Hutchinson followed. Older stars like T.J. Watt and Danielle Hunter slipped or held on, while Nik Bonitto joined the list for the first time. The NFL is loaded with elite pass rushers, making this one of the easiest positions to rank.
